Mass Intention (Elevation of the Cross)

Today’s mass will be celebrated in the intention of Boleslaw Karecki, Teresa image002.jpgRudnicka's Father, on the 5th anniversary of His death and in the intention of Zofia Pietrzkiewicz, the beloved Mother of Jola Sakaan, who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, leaving children and grandchildren overwhelmed by deep sorrow. God, Father Almighty, we believe that Your son died and was resurrected. By Your grace and through this mystery let Your servants Zofia Pietrzkiewicz and Boleslaw Karecki, who fell asleep in Christ, through Him be able to find the joy of resurrection. Through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

September Reflections

aniol-stroz-6.jpgAfter months of vacation, after trips to family members and distant countries, after the period of good or not so good rest and peace we come back to the everyday bustle. Children come back to school and other activities. Adults go to work or try to take care of their business. There is chase and haste. We stop to perceive what is going on around us. We do not notice wonderful changes in nature that are happening during this month. The summer is ending. The colors of the grass remind us that the fall season is coming soon and that the earth is producing ripe fruits to gather supplies for the winter. But not only is nature changing. We change too, though we do not always notice it.

At this time God is giving us three unfailing road companions – The Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. And, of course, also Guardian Angels, though their holiday will not come before October 2nd. The return of angels in recent years can be perceived as the most astonishing and interesting phenomenon.

Sunday’s readings, and Gospels, are dedicated this month to forgiveness, mercy, patience and hope for answering. The parables about the merciless debtor, which touches us personally, and the parable about two sons with its words:” Indeed, I tell you: Tax collectors and prostitutes enter the heavenly kingdom before you”, do not allow us to become indifferent. Wonderful is the parable about workmen in the vineyard because it gives us hope.

In September, the Church reminds us about little known saints. Piotr Klawery (9), missionary, who worried about the life of black slaves; Wincenty a Paulo (27), priest and founder of a society which touched the painful lives of poor people, Mikolaj from Flue (27), hermit, mystic, man of peace, who treated Gospel literally and left his wife and children, and lived in the hermitage. The Church in Poland remembers this month, the blessed Bronislawa (1), virgin, blessed Melchior Grodziecki (7), priest and martyr, St. Stanislaw Kostka (18), patron of Poland, blessed Wladyslaw from Gielniowa (25), priest, patron of Warsaw.

In September there are three holidays devoted to the cult of the Virgin Mary (8), The Holiest Name of Mary (12), The Holiest Mary Lady of Sorrow (15), and the holiday of Elevation of the Holy Cross.

“Elevation” of Jesus on the cross, which most of all is the humiliation on pile of shame, in final and deepest sense is triumph of love. This, what death brings, leads to salvation of us all. On the other hand, many of us experienced, that when you run away from your cross, you will find a bigger cross eventually. Cross is a tree, which shadow conceals our shadows. In it also the light begins to fire and shine.
